Saupsdorf was probably created in 12th or 13th century by Frankish farmers. It was put on as forest hoof village, that means everyone got a equivalent large piece of land which directly to its farmstead bordered. These land strips were called hooves. The leader of the farmers got a twice as large piece and him the justiceship was also usually transferred. From this also a possible explanation for the village name is derived. Of the slavic word "Zupan", which meant as much as land judges, could have played a role during the naming. Because large parts of Saxonian Switzerland belonged long time to Bohemia, this were the rule Hohnstein and Wildenstein. The first documentary mention by Saupsdorf is to be registered then 1445. 1451 Saupsdorf, which belonged to the rule Wildenstein, has come in Saxonian possession. The former castle plant on the new Wildenstein today one storms in great quantities, because is there the famous Kuhstall.
Today Saupsdorf belongs to the municipality Kirnitzschtal, which consists of the 5 villages Altendorf, Mittelndorf, Lichtenhain, Ottendorf and Saupdorf.
