Hinterhermsdorf
The establishment of the place Hinterhermsdorf took place in the same period as of Saupsdorf, thus in 12th /13th century, by Frankish farmers. The place is put on as forest hoof village and received first documentary mention in the year 1445. It is accepted that the village name is derived from the village founder which was called Hermann.
Many Umgebinde-houses are seen on the 850 inhabitants counting village. The church of Hinterhermsdorf was built 1689 as chapel and extended in the 19th century. Hinterhermsdorf was distinguished with a competition in the year 2000 with gold medal as the most beautiful village of Saxonia.
The boat trip on the Obere Schleuse is one of the most well-known tourist attractions in rear Saxonian Switzerland. Originally the Obere Schleuse as well as the other lock installations along the Kirnitzsch served to would flow wood to the Elbe.
